A QUICK GUIDE TO HEAD SHAVING
STEP 1—THE SETUP
BUZZ TO PREP
If this is your first time, or if it’s been a while since your last head shave—make sure your hair is trimmed short. It’s more comfortable to shave shorter hair. Take a buzzer and set it to 0 or 1, bringing your hair down close to the skin level. If you don’t have clipper, head to the barber and ask for a buzz cut.
To prepare for your shave, you want to open up your pores, soften your hair and hydrate your skin. Try shaving in the shower, right after the shower, or after applying a hot towel to your head for a few minutes.
Tip: if this is your first time, commit to the process and enjoy the results. You’re going to look great.
PROTECT YOUR SKIN
It’s important to lay down some protection for your skin and glide for the blades. We suggest a layer of shave oil followed by a lather of shave soap, or one or the other. It’s really up to you—as long as you feel that your skin is protected and you end your shave without irritation. Experiment with different set ups.
Don’t have time to whip up a bar of shave soap? It takes about 60 to 90 seconds. But if you’re in a rush, any shave cream will do (though look for non-drying formulations, e.g. avoid aerosolated packaging).
You are now ready to shave.
STEP 2—THE SHAVE
TEST IT OUT
Especially if this is your first time, you may want to make your first pass shaving 'with the grain' of hair growth on the areas of thicker growth. If you have areas of thinner growth, you may be able to make your first pass against the grain.
TIP—When working around your ears, pin them back to keep from nicking yourself. The same can be said for shaving along the top of your ear.
MAP YOUR SHAVE
Start at the front of your hairline and shave backward along the top of your head. Then, move to the side of your head and shave downward (with the grain) or front-to-back (across the grain).
After completing the top and sides, move to the back. Start at the crown of your head and shave downward with the grain of hair growth moving in methodical sections from left to right.
Feel around with your free hand and you'll identify if there are areas that need a second pass. If you only shaved with the grain of hair growth and you desire a skin-close shave then you will likely need to re-lather for a second pass.
Apply another layer of lather, and complete the shave process a second time. This time, shaving against the grain of hair growth (shaving from down, upward). Feel with your hand for areas that need buffing passes and complete your shave.
STEP 3—SKIN CARE
RE-BALANCE OILS
You've done the hard part. Now treat yourself right. Finish your shave with an oil. If your skin is prone to irritation or redness, choose Calming Serum. If not, you can confidently use Shave Oil after your shave.
This will provide needed moisture and protection, and keep your skin happy.
Spending time outside? Don't forget the SPF.
TIP—Did you know that shaving strips your skin's natural oils away? That's why your skin often feels dry after shaving.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU SHAVE YOUR HEAD?
That depends on how fast your hair grows, and how close of a shave you prefer to keep. Many people will shave their head every few days, tolerating a day or two of regrowth. Others prefer to shave every day.
Listen to your skin, and understand what it will tolerate.

HOW LEAF RAZOR HELPS HEAD SHAVERS
Of all the Leaf Shave razor models, we recommend the Leaf Razor for head shavers. This triple-blade, pivoting head, adjustable razor is a perfect fit for the challenges and opportunities that head shaving offers.
SHOP HEAD SHAVING✏️ AN ERASER FOR YOUR HEAD
Nothing is worse than struggling to get a close shave, running a razor over your skin repeatedly. That leads to irritation, lengthy shaves, and nicks and cuts. The Leaf Razor is designed to easily deliver a smooth-to-the-touch finish every time.
⚙ ADJUSTABLE TO YOUR SKIN
Everyone’s head, hair, and skin tolerate razors differently. That’s why the Leaf Razor is built to be adjustable. We achieve this by loading the blades individually. For the closest shave, load all three blades. For more sensitive skin and a gentler shave, leave the bottom spot empty. Experiment to find what works best for you.
️♻️ WORRY FREE, AND PLASTIC FREE
Maintaining the correct angles on a constantly curving surface with minimal visibility is challenging using traditional safety razors. The Leaf Razor delivers blades to your skin at a safer angle, and the pivoting head automatically keeps the blades in contact at all times, even when working quickly on areas you can’t see.
ADJUSTABLE
Adjust the razor to suit the needs of your skin and hair. We recommend either the closer-shave setting (all three blades loaded), or the milder setting (two blades loaded in the middle and top spots, leaving the bottom spot empty).
PIVOTING HEAD
Hugs all of your head's curves. There is simply no other safety razor that will deliver that experience.
NON-PROPRIETARY BLADES
Leaf Shave blade refills start at 15¢ each, but all of our tools are compatible with standard safety blades (even the double-edge variety) so that you have the freedom to use whatever blade you wish.
TRIPLE-BLADE
Load 1, 2 or 3 blades. Each position is 'individually guarded' which means they can work both with each other, and independently.
SIX-INCH HANDLE
Six-inch handle gives you lots of holding options as you navigate your shave on the top, sides and back of your head. Optional silicone sleeve for the shower shavers.
Finally, a safety razor designed to shave heads.
SEE THE LEAF RAZOR IN ACTION
The Leaf Razor is the only plastic-free razor specifically designed to handle the needs of head shavers.
- A glass-like finish without excessive passes
- Inexpensive refills so you can always choose fresh, sharp blades
- A pivoting head to hug your curves and blind-spots
- Adjustable to suit your needs even if you have sensitive skin
This razor is awesome! I went from having to shave my head once a week to wanting to shave my head twice a week! Took me a few uses to get used to it because it is not like a Gi**tte razor, it’s better and sharper for longer. This will save me a ton of money over the years because my old razors only lasted 2 head shaves then had to be replaced. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
